Remember as a kid how great this sandwich tasted, of course you do!
Serves 4 35 minutes
1 pound 85% lean hamburger
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 14.5 oz. Diced Tomatoes (Safeway Diced Fire Roasted (betterlivingbrandsLLC.com)
1 cup Burgundy wine
6 oz. sliced mushrooms
2 tablespoons crushed garlic
1 24 oz. Tomato Basil sauce (or any good marinara sauce)
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup dry sherry or white wine
4 slices toasted Wheat bread (or your favorite bread toasted)
Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a 10-inch frying pan, paying attention to the butter’s volume, add sherry and boil the mixture until the water and alcohol in the sherry evaporates leaving only the amount of melted butter now infused with sherry flavor, add sliced mushrooms and sauté until light brown, remove and place in side dish. Add the olive oil and hamburger, cook fully, drain off fat. Add diced tomatoes, tomato basil sauce, garlic, red wine and sauté, stirring every few minutes, on Medium until mixture starts to thicken. Fold in mushrooms and thicken on MED until desired consistency. Serve over toast, WOW.
